My Grandpa saved this poem from a newspaper awhile ago and gave it to me the other day. Pull out your tissues!
Remember the day I borrowed your brand-new car,
And I dented it?
I thought you’d kill me,
But you didn’t.
And remember the time I dragged you to the beach,
And you said it would rain, and it did?
I thought you’d say, “I told you so,”
But you didn’t.
Do you remember the time I flirted with all the guys to make you jealous?
And you were.
I thought you’d leave me,
But you didn’t.
Do you remember the time I spilled strawberry pie all over the rug in your new car?
I thought you’d hit me,
But you didn’t.
And remember the time I forgot to tell you the dance was formal,
And you showed up in jeans?
I thought you’d drop me,
But you didn’t
Yes, there were lots of things you didn’t do,
But you put up with me, and you loved me, and you protected me.
There were lots of things I wanted to make up to you
When you returned from Vietnam,
But you didn’t.

So beautiful, but so incredibly dismal 😦 Makes me sad.

I was just a little boy durring the Vietnam War but I do remembr the uncertainty in the air. Since I was born in 1963 it seemed like there was always a war. I remember it on the news every night. I suppose for those born in 2001 it could seem like we have always been at war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Will there ever be a generation that does not know war? I hope so!

It’s hard to imagine what it was like for those born before WWII…they must have kept seeing soldiers sent off to their death. Did you know the average age of a soldier in Vietnam was 18? That’s just not right.

That didn’t go where I thought it would. So very sad at the end.

It’s got a sad, shocking ending, for sure. I’m glad my Grandpa saved it. It’s a little strange seeing the sentiments of a different time expressed in such a raw manner.

Not just war though, is it? We none of us know if we’ll be here tomorrow. It’s a beautiful way of expressing it.
Came to your blog through Kana’s Notebook and on opening it up instantly thought- “oh there’s that lovely header I fancied using for my blog”. Glad now that I didn’t- it suits you!

Very true. It’s a harsh reminder.
Thank you! I see we have a similar design. It’s so clean looking, don’t you think?
